As the "Man with No Name" in A Fistful of Dollars 1964 and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly 1966, he started the vogue for "spaghetti westerns" (made in Italy or Spain). Later westerns which he both starred in and directed include High Plains Drifter 1973, The Outlaw Josey Wales 1976, and Unforgiven 1992 (two Academy Awards). Other films include In The Line of Fire 1993 and The Bridges of Madison County 1995. Eastwood starred in the TV series Rawhide and in the "Dirty Harry" series of films, and directed Bird 1988. He was elected mayor of Carmel, California, 1986.
